Charles Kelly's Online Japanese Language Study Materials
オンラインで使える日本語教材
These are free-to-use online materials that I have developed to help people learn Japanese.
I am a long-term resident of Japan. I came to Japan when I was four years old.
2025 Announcement
Please visit my Japanese Listen and Repeat YouTube channel to find hours of listen-and-repeat and other videos for studying Japanese.
This channel is transparently "text-to-speech" (TTS) and doesn't pretend to be anything else.
Both the channel's URL youtube.com/@JapaneseTTS and the channel's profile image clearly indicate this.
I listen to the audio carefully before creating videos.
Here are a few of the playlists that you can preview or watch here.
- Study Japanese with AI Songs
- This is experimental. My feeling is that if AI errors are clearly identified, this can be a fun and useful way to study.
- The music is by AI. (AI sometimes makes pronunciation errors. I have these errors marked in the videos.)
- The text is not by AI. I include the text that I submitted to have AI create the songs.

10,000 Japanese Words
- This is a project in progress.
- On January 10, 2025, there were 4,600 high-frequency words (roughly up through JLPT N2 level) on the playlist.
- 200 Words Per Video - Clean, Seemless Transitions, No Outros and Intros Between Videos.
- Up to about a little over 4,000 takes about 12 hours of listening.
- Please help me proof-listen to these: Start
Help Me Proof-Listen The first minute and a half is an introduction in English.
This is not a monetized YouTube Channel
- Since I never plan to monetize this channel, I am able to use a number of voices that do not pemit commercial use.
- This also means you that are likely not to see ads. I think sometimes YouTube might put ads before non-monetized videos, though.
- YouTube will direct more people to my videos as I get more subscribers and more "likes," so I appreciate those who do so.
